Eating My Way Though Europe

Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party (1881)

Introduction

Bonjour!

My name is Arianne Snyder and this blog is an account of my culinary adventures in Europe, but most especially in Paris. I am a 22-year old student at the University of Texas, studying marketing at the McCombs School of Business. For the next 5 weeks, from June 3, 2010 to July 9, 2010, I will be taking classes in Paris as part of the CIBER marketing program in Paris. The blog is part of a project meant to interest other students in studying abroad. If anyone would like to know more about my study abroad experience, don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

Food is one of my life's passions. Before starting at UT, I earned a culinary degree at the Texas Culinary Academy (TCA). The school is an Austin chapter of the famous Le Cordon Bleu school in France, so my studies mostly focused on French cuisine. In fact, TCA recently changed their name to Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, I suppose because it sounds worldlier. But it will always be TCA to me. Although I love to cook, and baking is my specialty (I've had several jobs in bakeries since graduating), I love to eat even more! One great thing about culinary school is that they require you to taste everything you prepare (well, of course, how else would you know if it tastes good?). So I went from being a somewhat picky eater to a person willing to try just about anything. That is why I cannot wait to document every succulent bite here in Paris, from crepes and croissants to snails and foie gras.

I wish you all could be here in Paris with me, sitting at my table and enjoying France's delicious cuisine. Since you cannot, I invite you to live (or rather, eat) vicariously through my experiences. Bon appetit!
